Li Keqiang Attends the China-Indonesia Business Summit and Delivers a Keynote Speech

On the evening of May 7th, local time, Premier Li Keqiang attended the China-Indonesia Business Summit with Indonesian Vice President Kara in Jakarta and delivered a keynote speech.

Li Keqiang said that Indonesia is a representative of major developing and emerging market economies with significant influence. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Indonesia. In 2013, President Xi Jinping successfully visited Indonesia and planned directions for the development of bilateral relations. With the joint efforts of people from all walks of life in both countries, China’s relations with Indonesia have entered the fast lane of development, and economic and trade are the most active and fruitful areas in bilateral cooperation.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the purpose of my visit is to further consolidate the good momentum in the development of bilateral relations and push forward the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

—— Both parties will expand investment and capacity cooperation. China is willing to better connect the “One Belt One Road” initiative with Indonesia’s “Global Ocean Fulcrum” and create a number of demonstration projects. Support Chinese enterprises to participate in the construction of Indonesia’s “Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor” and would like to help the Indonesian side improve its infrastructure and explore cooperation in ports, coastal economics, industrial processing, and “overseas warehouse” construction. We also welcome the establishment of an investment promotion center in Indonesia by the Indonesian side.

—— The two sides will facilitate the liberalization of trade and investment. Both China and Indonesia support economic globalization, advocate free trade, and maintain a rules-based multilateral trading system, and advocate the settlement of trade disputes through equal consultations. China is willing to import more Indonesian competitive specialty products. The two sides agreed to increase the level of trade facilitation. We will vigorously develop cross-border e-commerce and bridge the cooperation between SMEs of the two countries.

— Both sides will further close humanities exchanges and cooperation. China is willing to conduct extensive exchanges and cooperation with Indonesia in such areas as education, culture, tourism, media, and sports, so that the concept of peace, friendship and cooperation between the two countries enjoys popular support. Deepen tourism cooperation, open more direct flights, and promote the annual personnel exchanges toward the goal of 3 million people.

Li Keqiang said that in recent years, in the face of the complex domestic and international environment, China has kept its strategy and concentrated efforts to promote supply-side structural reforms, continuously innovate and improve macro-control, and vigorously nurture new development momentum. The development of new momentum has thrived, and mass entrepreneurship and innovation have been widely implemented. At present, the contribution rate of new kinetic energy to economic growth exceeds 30%, and the contribution rate to new employment has reached about 70%. Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese economy has continued its steady development and has made a good start. We have confidence and ability to maintain high-speed economic growth and achieve high-quality development in the long-term.

Li Keqiang emphasized that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. We will open a new course of reform and opening up. There is no end to the reform. Expanding openness is an independent and inevitable choice for China. China will open up to a higher level and promote deeper mutual benefits and win-win results. A more prosperous and open China will certainly bring greater opportunities for the development of all countries in the world, including Indonesia.

Kara said that the opening of the Indonesia-China Business Summit has demonstrated the strong confidence of business leaders from both countries in the development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. We welcome China’s continued expansion of investment in Indonesia, expansion of exports of two-way products, joint promotion of the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor”, and deepening cooperation in tourism, digital economy, manufacturing, energy, environment, and infrastructure. The two governments will formulate policies to create a better environment for investment and business promotion.

More than 600 representatives from the industrial and commercial circles of the two countries attended the summit.
